If your central air system was suffering, would you know it?  Sooner or later, of course, you would.  But without early detection, any damage is likely to get worse thus resulting in a bigger repair bill. To help prevent that, you’ll want to know some of the most common early warning signs that trouble is brewing.

Clogged, Dirty Filter

Unless cool air can pass freely through your filter, your system must work harder to deliver the desired temperature thus adding to its wear and tear. To prevent that added stress, check your filter regularly and clean or replace it as needed.

Refrigerant Leak

You won’t be able to see a refrigerant leak, but one might exist if you notice reduced airflow, rising temperatures, water on the floor near your air handler (the system component often placed in the attic), and increased energy bills. If cleaning your filter doesn’t help, contact Bob Boldt HVAC to check on your refrigerant levels and other possible causes.

Faulty Thermostat

Just because your AC system is misbehaving doesn’t necessarily mean the problem is with the system itself. Maybe it’s just a faulty thermostat. Or maybe a family member accidentally changed the temperature setting.

Frozen Coil

If warm air is flowing your AC registers, the evaporator coils have likely frozen. You can find out for sure by examining your air handler and the outside condensing unit, both of which are prone to freezing. If that’s the case, turn the system off and give us a call.

There’s even a bigger and better reason to contact Bob Boldt HVAC, and that’s for our preventive maintenance service. With an annual cleaning and inspection, we can spot problems in the making before they get worse and prevent most others from happening.
